I’ll be in Edmonton the week of December 5, 2011 to teach course 6451B Planning, Deploying and Managing Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007. The course will be running at Winding River (http://www.windingriver.ca/) so if you have been wanting to take this course, here’s your opportunity.
While there, I’ll also be presenting a short “Lunch and Learn” Introduction to System Center Service Manager. SCSM is one of Microsoft’s latest System Center additions, and in the past 12 months I’ve worked with a number of clients on planning and implementing the solution. Service Manager provides a flexible and powerful ITIL based incident and change management solution. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/system-center/service-manager.aspx for more information.
For organizations currently using Configuration Manager or Operations Manager, SCSM can use data synchronized from those databases to populate CI objects in Service Manager’s database, as well as from Active Directory.
Software requests created by users in the Service Manager Self-Service Portal can trigger workflows which would solicit management approval, and then workflow processes to deliver the application, using Configuration Manager, to the end-user after approval. Alerts generated in Operations Manager can be synchronized to Service Manager, which in turn could trigger workflows which would automatically create an associated incident in the Service Manager databases, route it to the appropriate support team members and then, once the incident is resolved, can automatically close the associated alert in Operations Manager.
So if you are in the Edmonton area and looking for a basic overview of how Service Manager could benefit your organization, be sure to contact Winding River to register.
