Windows 7 deployment seems to the the hot topic these days. If you are responsible for planning and rolling out Windows 7, then this is a course you really should consider taking. This five-day instructor-led course is intended for desktop administrators who specialize in desktop deployment, configuration, and management . It is a great course for those interested in OS deployment.
Five days of training on Windows 7 deployment may seem like a lot, but it is actually an information packed 5 days with plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning. You can see the course outline at Microsoft Learning
Microsoft has provided a wealth of tools and information for those planning to roll out Windows in their organization, and almost all of those tools are 100% free. They include Microsoft Assessment and Planning Toolkit and a suite of Application Compatibility tools to assist you in evaluating application compatibility, and mitigating compatibility issues. There is also Windows AIK, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Imagex and DISM, Windows Deployment Services, User State Migration Tools, and of course System Center Configuration Manager.
The 6294 course is your opportunity to become familiar with these tools. You will learn options for Windows upgrades, migrations and deployments. You will learn how to automate deployments leveraging tools like System Image Manager, MDT and SCCM task sequences.
By the end of the week, you will have performed application compatibility testing, configured MDT for Light-Touch deployments, configured WDS to support PXE and Multicast deployments on Windows Server 2008 R2, configured a master image using Build and Capture task sequences, performed a user migration using USMT and hard-link migration, and deployed an operating system using System Center Configuration Manager. If you are using SCCM in your environment, there is a full module highlighting how SCCM integrates with these other deployment tools. Other than that one module, the remainder of the 5 days assumes you do not have SCCM in your infrastructure, and describes the options available to you for Light Touch deployments.
The course helps you prepare for the requirements for Exam 70-686, Pro: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Administrator.
I will be conducting this course the week of May 16, 2011 at Winding River in Edmonton, Alberta, so if you are in the area and need to learn what options are available for Windows 7 deployment, it would be great to see you there.
